Harry D. Wolf, 85, of 1112 W. Wabash Ave., died Thursday morning at Culver Hospital. He had been a patient there the past month and in failing health for several years. Mr. Wolf had spent most of his adult life in Crawfordsville and Montgomery County. He owned and operated a billiard parlor and lunch counter in the city from 1925 to 1933. It became Wolf’s Grill which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1953. The restaurant was where the former Carl’s Cafe was located. He was a charter member of the city’s Christ Lutheran Church. Mr. Wolf was active in many community and service organizations. He was a member of the Pickaway Masonic Lodge 23 at Circleville, Ohio, Scottish Rite of Columbus, Ohio, Murat Shrine at Indianapolis and a life member of the Gatling Gun Club of Indianapolis. He was a past commander and life member of the Byron Cox Post 72 of the American Legion; past chef de gare and life member of the 40 and 8, and a member of Montgomery County Post 1431, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in the U.S. Army in World War I. Mr. Wolf was an honorary Kentucky colonel. He was also a member of the Crawfordsville Elks Lodge, the Crawfordsville Sportsman’s Club and a life member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was also a charter member of Circle 16. Born Feb. 3, 1885, in Circleville, Ohio, he was the son of John and Margaret Wolf. He attended schools in Circleville and Columbus and attended Ohio University. He was first married to Belva Jewel Peterson in Darlington. He was married to Katie B. Russell Jan. 19, 1948, at Hopkinsville, Ky. The widow survives along with a son, John W. “Jack” Wolf of Crawfordsville. Mr. Wolf was preceded in death by a brother, Bert; a sister, Stashia, and an infant daughter. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church. Rev. John Stacy, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with graveside rites conducted by Byron Cox Post. Friends may call at the Bright & Burkhart Funeral Home in Crawfordsville after 2 p.m. Friday. Masonic services will be conducted at the funeral home at 8 p.m. Friday. – jlr
